Dr. Laby completed the Doctor of Psychology degree in 1997 at Florida Institute of Technology including a pre-doctoral
internship at the Counseling Center at the University of Florida. She also participated in post doctoral training at the
Harris County Psychiatric Center and at the Houston Psychotherapy Institute. Licensed to practice psychology in Texas, Dr.
Laby has been in independent practice since 2002. In her career, Dr. Laby has worked with individuals and groups ranging
in age from elementary school aged children to seniors living in nursing homes.
As a student, intern, and psychologist,
Dr. Laby has conducted individual, couples, and group therapy in many settings to address a variety of client concerns. She
has worked with child and adult victims of sexual trauma, non- offending caretakers of children who had been sexually traumatized,
and juvenile sex offenders and their families. Dr. Laby has worked in nursing home settings, helping elders and their families
adapt to the changes in role and status that accompany nursing home living. She has also facilitated individual and group
therapy in a pain management program helping individuals address the psychological aspect of pain and develop adaptive coping
strategies. Her work in university counseling centers has given her the opportunity to help young adults navigate the stress
of university life while also navigating their emergent independence and responsibility. Additional work experiences include
general practice settings encompassing numerous areas of client concern. Though these work settings and client concerns are
vastly different, Dr. Laby finds a commonality in helping clients connect with their individual strengths in order to effect
desired change in their lives.
In her daily practice, Dr. Laby provides help for adults, adolescents, couples, and
groups wanting to make changes in the way that they feel or interact with others. She helps clients deal with a variety
of concerns including: depression, grief and loss, relationship issues, trauma recovery, parenting concerns, divorce recovery,
and co-parenting after divorce. In general, Dr. Laby views psychotherapy and counseling as a way for individuals and couples
to rediscover strengths and learn new skills to make forward progress towards achieving their life goals.
Bilingual
and bicultural, Dr. Laby provides all of the above mentioned services in Spanish.
